Linda K. Schinkel Biography

Linda K. Schinkel (Rodney) (b. Detroit, MI 1953) is a Detroit-based multidisciplinary outsider artist and co-founder of Schinkel Fine Art LLC, an internationally acclaimed art and design firm. With her son Theodore (Teddy) M. Schinkel they share a generative artist practice since 2010 and formed a 501c3 charity, Conceptions Connect, in 2019. Linda uses her original 2D sculptural work that appears 3D to promote a growth mindset.

The artists developed the Metallaverse, a trinity comprised of Metalagram, Metalamirror, and Metalamix; artist processes are related yet individually distinct. Their work engenders a heightened sense of connections and potential.

Linda has seen first-hand empowerment derived from collaboratively creating. Inspiring belief in one’s future and promoting the commensurate mindset underlies her work. One such collaborative work created with Kids Kicking Cancer, has been permanently installed at the Cranbrook Institute of Science in Bloomfield Hills, MI since 2014.

While having a lifelong art practice, in 2000 Linda focused on the visual arts. Linda gained gallery representation in 2004 and was published in “Style” and “Ambassador” magazines. Gallery representation continued with Teddy in London England; Miami FL; and Detroit MI. In recognition of her artistic career Linda received the 49th Distinguished Women’s Award from Northwood University in Midland, MI.

Theodore M. Schinkel Biography

Theodore (Teddy) M. Schinkel (b. Sylvania, OH 1986) is a Detroit-based multidisciplinary outsider artist and co-founder of Schinkel Fine Art LLC, an internationally acclaimed art and design firm. With his mother, Linda K. Schinkel (Rodney) they share a generative art practice since 2010, and formed a 501c3 charity, Conceptions Connect in 2019. Teddy explores known and unknown existence in an effort to enlarge perspective and understanding.

The arts have been prominent in Teddy’s development. Viewing the artwork changes depending on one’s physical position, similarly Teddy’s work promotes layers of understanding the unfamiliar and new perspective. This is an effort to promote consensus in appreciation of interconnectedness.

Teddy, at age five, and a small group of relatives were invited to the first USA Opening of artwork by Karl Friedrich Schinkel (1781-1841) at the Chicago Institute of Art. Karl Friedrich Schinkel, a familia ancestor, was a prominent late 18th to mid-19th-century Prussian architect and artist. This experience left a lasting impression inspiring his art practice today.

Teddy used art to express himself, as he grew up with processing difficulties. Despite being qualified to learn Braille, Teddy communicated through art projects. In elementary school with Gijsbert van Frankenhuyzen (Nick) (b. Netherlands 1951), illustrator of Michigan’s Official Children’s Book, Teddy experienced art engagement and enrichment. Teddy embraces collaboration to harness the synergy of working with others.

Teddy’s studio is located and influenced by the former Moross House Museum, now Schinkel Fine Art gallery in Detroit, MI.
